About Us
The South London Youth Dance Company (SLY Dance) was established as a dance school in 1980. Founded and run by professional dance teacher Ricky Blackett, the school offers a complete program for dancers of all ages. Ricky comes from a diverse background of different dance styles such as jazz, contemporary and street dance, which are included in all his classes. SLY Dance offers dancers strength building, flexibility, focus, creativity and a love of music and movement for both boys and girls interested in dance.
The school offers weekly lessons for different age groups and varying grades of ability. There is an annual Summer School and Performance run during the school-term summer holidays which offer technique classes of dance as well as an opportunity to explore singing and drama. The school also performs an annual Christmas Show, fund-raising events and hosts an Awards Ceremony for all dancers to work towards.
New dancers are always made to feel very welcome at SLY Dance. Dance is a great way for children to make new friends and through exploring a variety of different styles they will use their imagination and creative ideas to have fun with dance.
For the adults out there either wanting to start dancing for the first time or for those wanting to continue their dance journey into a new stage, SLY Dance offers a new way to socialise, tone-up and get fit and support professional dance artists. So take a look at the Classes section of the website and come and join the growing SLY Dance family.
